    It had me hooked from start to finish! The characters are wonderfully written, the story is utterly charming, it's impossible not to be captivated by their lives and what they go through. I was moved to tears by the end...10/10 would recommend :)

    I applaud Zusak for his spectacular presentation of German life in World War Two. It is thrilling how the book is told form the perspective of death, and it fills your mind with questions and entices you to keep reading. This book perfectly demonstrates the brutalities of life in the war. The book is narrating the life of Liesel Meminger and close persons to her. She is brought to Himmel street where she meets her new Mama and Papa (after a series of events). She is particularly fond of Papa, however still loves her strict Mama. Starting school is difficult for Liesel as she cannot read, which is obviously embarrassing and problematic. The other children in her class can read, which makes her determined to catch up. Her and her Papa embark on the quest and she soon catches up. Then, as she discovers her love of books, she begins to steal them, which gives her the title- 'the book thief'. One day she comes home and finds that her Mama and Papa have some news to confide in her about the 'thing' in their basement. Read the book to find out what's there. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind a long read (900 or so pages) and is prepared for heartbreak.

    Heart-wrenchingly honest with magnificent characters. Liesel will steal your heart as well as the books she so clearly coverts. Read/listen and enjoy a family, a war, a human story brought brilliantly to life. Also a word for the narrator, whose timing, temper and delivery was perfect.
