As Scrooge’s nephew Fred said, “I have always thought of Christmas time . . . as a good time: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.”

Or as Tiny Tim put it more succinctly, “God bless us every one!”

    I'm reading this 2 days before Christmas Eve , and I've read it since I was a small boy , must still rate as one of the all-time great ghost story's . It's true testament of dickens that the tale is frightening and relevant still today, well over a hundred years after his death !

    In a time where Christmas is little more than a commercial extravaganza, where we spend money like its going out of fashion, and we pile present after present on our children and loved ones in an effort to show our feelings, this book lets us look back to when Christmas was a time for joy, friendship, jollity and sharing. We all know the story of Ebenezer Scrooge but re-reading the book has another effect as well as entertainment. It makes us question how we "keep" Christmas and shows us how we ought to keep it.

    One of the best books by Dickens I have ever read. Combines nice language and is witty, funny and generally very interesting. Definitely in my top ten.

    I must have read this book many times over the years, usually just before Christmas, but it is always a joy to do so. This digital edition is in my opinion one of the best. I particularly like the original (?) illustrations which set just the right mood.

    Thank you to the Top Five team for providing free ebooks that I wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen with. Properly designed, the text is seemingly not just cut and pasted, but set and designed to look as beautiful as the real thing. Add the inclusion of original illustrations where appropriate and covers that look they are not an afterthought (or done by a 12 year old on MS Paint). The Sherlock Holmes are just as worthy. Get 'em all. I have.

    Wow! What an amazing book to get for free! I had never read such a book! It is very different I will say that and very long so for those who don't like a long similar book this wouldn't suit you! If your like me and you like a slight mystery to a book then read 'A Christmas Carol!' It was perfect for me! Young children may need parents help on some language (as in old fashioned language there is no swearing!) All in all a fantastic book for those who like a slight mystery! 5/5
