    I read the book over a period of a few months dipping in and out while studying. I have enjoyed the journey it had taken me on as a reader and the beauty of the art and artistry written about. A journey through bleakness to truth and beauty.

    I bought two books randomly first book I read was ok, I read the authors questions and answer sections at the back 'what book would you of liked to of written?' 'The Goldfinch' that was the other book I'd bought! Different class of book! It's like a great film you wished you hadn't seen just so you could watch it again to get the same high. When I'd finished Goldfinch I wanted to go over it again to remember some of the text and sayings. Not read a book as good as this for a long time had me gripped from the start and the description of the painting is etched in my mind and the front cover doesn't show it all. Loved every minute of it. Stop reading the reviews and read the book.

    When I finished reading this book I did not feel satisfied. It felt monotonous and very repetitive in some chapters and overall it felt unnecessarily long.

    It's a really good story, though I think it drags out a bit. I mean over 800 pages about a painting? Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed it, but I just felt it was too long.

    This book starts with a lot of promise, then seems to get lost in the middle with protracted chapters of similar information about drug withdrawal and the main characters inability to cope with life. It doesn't reach a fantastic crescendo and is rather anti climatic.
